All these were taken from the länai, primarily in November & December. At certain times of the year, the sun sets a little further to the north and the best views are from the rocks down by the ocean.
The sun sets at about 6 pm every day, so it is easy to plan to be sitting on your länai during this time. We always try to be back from whatever we are doing in time for the sunset! We like to prepare frosty piña coladas and sip on them while we watch the sun slowly go down. If you are real lucky and there are no clouds on the horizon, you can sometimes see a "green flash" (photos) just as the sun dips below the horizon.
Then we fix our favorite dinner of grilled 'ahi (yellowfin tuna), 'uala (local sweet potatoes), a salad of fresh Waimea greens, and crusty sourdough rolls to eat on the länai in the cool dusk.
All in all, it's just another beautiful day in Kona Hawaii.
