As you walk in the front door, you will see porcelain tile throughout. The living room is directly ahead, off to the right in the photo is the kitchen, and to the left is the hallway leading to the bedrooms and baths.
The entire house was retiled with beautiful 18" diagonally laid Italian porcelain tile, but is not yet reflected in all our photos.

The back door, shown in this view from the front entry, leads to an exterior staircase which goes directly down one level to the pool area and the beach.

The living room opens directly out onto the länai and provides a glorious view of the ocean and those magnificent Kona sunsets. The glass sliding doors & screen doors separating the länai (veranda) from the living area can be completely slid back into a pocket on the right, so that the entire area is open to the länai. This is a wonderful way to entertain guests or just to enjoy for yourselves.
The large länai is 9'6" x 25' (246 ft²) and has a Tropitone
48" tempered glass dining table and high-back comfortable cushioned chairs for
dining, as well as two chaise lounges & a tea table.
There is nothing between you and the ocean except an occasional coconut palm.
The living room cushions are upholstered with a tropical print. Hawai'ian
artwork by Varez decorates the walls, and other decorative tropical touches are
found throughout the house.
The many screened, full-length louvers here and in all the other rooms provide
cooling flow-through ventilation and fresh ocean breezes. But if the famous
Kona tradewinds cease, there are also overhead ceiling fans to keep you
cool.
The Hawai'ian look is carried through with the shelving, a tropical
lamp & telephone stand, and root & rattan table lamps. A color television
and VCR with standard cable-TV hookup are provided for your enjoyment, as well
as a CD player with AM/FM radio. |
The kitchen opens directly onto the länai, so is very convenient for entertaining
or just having a lovely romantic dinner on the länai. The länai
directly overlooks the ocean and you can sit and sip piña coladas
or mai tais while watching the dolphins, turtles and whales. The morning
sun hitting the ocean turns the water a lovely aqua and you can see many
colorful fish in the waves.

The kitchen was completely redone with porcelain tile in 2002, with hand-crafted
petroglyph accent tiles of honu, paddlers, surfers and other Hawaiian
images created by David Seymour.

The guest bedroom contains a queen-size bed with a new boxsprings & mattress. We also purchased a lovely new tropical print bedspread, but have not yet gotten it in our photos. Artwork by local Big Island artist Dietrich Varez adorns the walls.
Sliding wooden louver doors between the bedroom & the hallway provide privacy, while still allowing flow-through ventilation. There is also a ceiling fan for additional cooling, if desired.
The quest bathroom is just around the corner from the guest bedroom, through the hallway. The guest bath shower was recently retiled and a larger mirror installed in the bath.
Behind the wooden louver doors to the right is the laundry area with a recently purchased Maytag stacking washer and dryer.

The large master bedroom has a king-size bed. It has cooling flow-through ventilation on both sides and breezes also come in through the bathroom windows. There is also a ceiling fan for additional cooling, if desired.
The shower in the master bathroom includes a bench & large tile with decorative accent pieces. There is also a large walk-in closet with a built-in chest of drawers just to the right of the sink area.
